Production/Manufacturing:
A majority of Neu Nomads’ garments (85%) are produced in a family-owned factory in Delhi. The remaining garments are made in female-owned factories based in Portugal, Lithuania, and Nepal. All of Neu Nomads’ factory partners pay above living wages. Additionally, factories provide medical care and ensure fair treatment and healthy working conditions for their employees.
But, how does Neu Nomads ensure the company’s ethics and sustainability standards are upheld? The founders regularly inspect its supply chains and maintain a close connection with production partners. Updates are shared on the sustainability page.
Materials Used
Five plant-based key fabrics are used throughout the brand’s collections. All of these fabrics are sourced from sustainable and renewable resources. They’re also non-toxic, OEKO-TEX certified, and use AZO-free dyes.
1. TENCEL
The Satin TENCEL™ is carbon neutral, biodegradable, and made with beech wood. The fabric is produced using energy and water-conserving methods. Additionally, up to 95% of the chemicals used in the production are recycled.
TENCEL Dyeing Process
Neu Nomad’s TENCEL™ fabric is dyed in India, in a factory powered by solar energy. For the actual dyeing process, this factory uses water captured in reservoirs. Nearly 90% of the water used during the dyeing process is recycled. Additionally, the factory directs excess energy back to the local community.
2. Eco-Jersey
Neu Nomad’s Eco-Jersey is used for the SeaCell knitwear collection. This fabric is made in Portugal in a female-owned factory, which is an official member of the Greenpeace DETOX campaign. Eco-Jersey is made from 80% organic cotton and 20% SeaCell™ (seaweed and eucalyptus fibers). Additionally, it’s made using a closed-loop production method with no chemical waste. This fabric is OEKO-TEX certified and GOTS-certified organic.
3. 100% Cotton
100% organic cotton flannel pieces are made from GOTS-certified organic cotton. The cotton is sourced in Portugal. Manufacturing takes place in a female-owned factory based in Lithuania.
4. Linen
The brand’s linen collection is sustainably sourced and manufactured in Lithuania. Since 2017, the factory has used only renewable energy. Additionally, it holds an OEKO-TEX 100 certification.
5. Cashmere
The Eco-Cashmere collection is sourced from Mongolia. It’s SGS lab certified and uses “optical fiber analyzer software, ensuring the perfect diameter and length for each design”. Eco-Cashmere pieces are manufactured in Kathmandu, Nepal, and are dyed with eco-friendly dyes. This collection’s factory also “invests in the children of marginalized and underprivileged employees. They do so by sponsoring their education at private schools to ensure quality education”.
Sustainability Efforts:
The company has a transparent and traceable supply chain, which ensures the use of renewable energy and eco-friendly materials. Neu Nomads has identified how working with sustainable factories can reduce its overall carbon emissions. The factories Neu Nomads uses are powered by green energy. Additionally, the factories use eco-friendly dyes, which reduce chemicals and water used in manufacturing. Biodegradable bags and recycled paper packaging are used for shipping.
Sustainable Credentials
New Nomad’s collections are OEKO-TEX certified. The brand’s Eco-Jersey and Organic Cotton Flannel materials are also GOTS-certified organic.
